Below we have activities, beaches, and food places to check out on the islands in Casco Bay. Make sure to check out the multiple itineraries below, and check the routes and ferry times for the different islands on the Casco Bay Ferry website!
Mailboat Tour
If you aren’t interested in visiting any island in particular and would rather spend the day on the water, check out the Mailboat Tour! This tour takes you to Little and Great Diamond Island, Long Island, Cliff Island, and Chebeague Island. You will not be able to explore the different islands on this tour, however, as the boat only stops to load and unload cargo.
Casco Bay Ferry Line Pricing
Taking the Casco Bay Ferry in Portland is also an affordable activity. Adult tickets are the same price across all the islands at $16 per ticket, and tickets for seniors and children cost $8 per ticket. If you are looking to take the Mailboat ferry, adult tickets cost $24 per ticket, senior tickets cost $20 per ticket, and children’s tickets cost $14 per ticket. Additionally, you don’t have to worry about purchasing return tickets; the ticket price includes your ride back to Portland after you finish your day in the bay!

How to get to the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal
Casco Bay Lines is located at 56 Commercial Street in downtown Portland, so parking is limited at the physical location itself; however, there is some good news. There are plenty of parking garages near the Casco Bay Lines terminal, including the Casco Bay Parking Garage. Parking spots fill up quickly during the summer, however, so be on the lookout for spaces at the Old Port Square Garage, Custom House Parking Garage, and Cumberland County Parking Garage.
Departure times
The Casco Bay Ferry departs from Portland roughly every hour; however, after every couple of runs, the departure time changes (but still runs hourly). You will also have 15 minutes to board the ferry when it comes to the island (excluding the mailboat run).
What should I bring to the island?
It is always a good idea to bring some rain gear with you when you go to the islands. Rain can break out at any time and can last for quite a long time. Additionally, because the islands are relatively difficult to access from Portland, it is a good idea to bring snacks, food, water, and any other necessities with you to the island because of the time it takes to get back to Portland. Additionally, always assume the ferry runs on time; it is a good idea to arrive early at the dock!

Something important to keep in mind when you visit these islands is to remember that you are visiting someone’s home. These Islands all have communities of people who live on the islands year-round, and you should definitely visit these islands and go check out their unique businesses and attractions, but just remember to treat them with respect.
